About

Three Cheesecakes is written by Melissa Marshall, a food-obsessed graduate of the University of Oregon. If you were to ask me when I started cooking I wouldn’t be able to answer. I even unearthed photographs of a little 2-year-old Melissa wearing nothing but underwear and a thick coating of flour while baking Christmas cookies. (See below!) My dad demonstrated the art of cracking an egg when I was 5 or so, but failed to mention that I needed to do it over a bowl. (He seemed to think it went without saying.) I was 7 the first time my mom left me in charge of watching dinner while she ran an errand. I’ll cook just about anything, but I’ve always loved experimenting with breads, cakes and pastries. The look on my Home Ec. teacher’s face was enough to tell me that it wasn’t normal to bake a brioche recipe from a classic French cookbook for a 6th grade project.
The title, “Three Cheesecakes,” is quite simple. I’d been writing about my cooking for over a year, but had yet to come up with a name that wasn’t trite or, well, sickeningly cute. I then wrote about three different cheesecakes in succession and my blog was born! I love cheesecake and I love chocolate even more, but I detest chocolate cheesecake and you’ll never find me mixing the two together.

I recently moved back to my parents’ house in Eugene, Oregon. My degrees in magazine journalism and Spanish haven’t helped me much in this recession, though my Spanish degree did allow me to spend some time studying (and eating) in Spain when I was 19. I’ve always considered cooking a hobby, but hope to turn it into something more.

Ha! I had no idea you were such a foodie. I went to culinary school straight out of high school, and loved every minute of it! I agree that chocolate and cheesecake should never be mixed, however I wouldn’t say no to eating them in quick succession. The hardest part would be deciding which one to start with.
